3-year licence. Valid for three full years from activation. Renew only if you want to keep using the software after the term ends. Digital delivery and activation guidance are included.

Inventor: parametric mechanical design built for manufacturing

Autodesk Inventor is the 3D mechanical design application UK engineering firms, machine builders and product designers use to take an idea from concept sketch to production drawings. It combines parametric part modelling, large-assembly management, sheet-metal and frame-generator tools, integrated stress and motion simulation, and drawing views that update automatically when the design changes.

Since Autodesk merged Inventor and Inventor Professional into a single product, the licence you buy here includes the professional-grade toolsets: tube & pipe, cable & harness, dynamic simulation and Inventor Nastran-style stress analysis.

What Inventor is used for

  • Parametric part modelling: sketch-driven features, iLogic rules and design accelerators for shafts, gears, bolts and frames.
  • Assemblies: constrain thousands of components, detect interference, animate mechanisms and generate bills of materials.
  • Sheet metal and weldments: flat patterns, bend tables and weld symbols ready for the shop floor.
  • Simulation: stress, modal and dynamic simulation to validate designs before prototyping.
  • Drawings and documentation: BS 8888-compliant drawing views, GD&T and automatic parts lists; DWG output for AutoCAD users.

Who buys Inventor

Mechanical engineers, machine designers, fabrication shops and industrial designers who need a full-featured desktop CAD system with local file control. Inventor is the natural choice where a company already runs Autodesk Vault or AutoCAD Mechanical, or where clients supply DWG and STEP files.

Teams weighing Inventor against Fusion often land on Inventor for large assemblies and shop drawings, and Fusion for lighter, cloud-first design or integrated CAM. Both are listed here: see Autodesk Fusion 360. For Inventor plus AutoCAD, Navisworks and the manufacturing add-ons, the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection bundles them.

Choosing your release year

Inventor is Windows-only; select a release year from 2024 to 2027. Inventor files are forward-compatible only, so match the release used by the customers or suppliers you exchange native files with. If most exchange is via STEP or DWG, the newest release is the safe pick.

Compatibility and system requirements

Inventor 2026/2027 requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a 3 GHz+ multi-core processor, 16 GB of RAM (32 GB recommended for assemblies over 1,000 parts) and a dedicated graphics card with 4 GB or more of memory. Reserve around 40 GB of disk space.

An Autodesk account and internet connection are required for download and licence validation.

Always check the current release against Autodesk’s published system requirements before you order, because minimum specifications move with each release.
