Which Windows edition should you buy?
Two decisions: Windows 11 or Windows 10, and Home or Pro. Windows 11 is the current, supported version and the right choice for any PC that meets its requirements (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, a supported processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage). Windows 10’s standard support ended on 14 October 2025, with Microsoft’s consumer Extended Security Updates available until 12 October 2027, so a Windows 10 licence suits older hardware that cannot run Windows 11. Home covers everyday use and gaming; Pro adds BitLocker management, Remote Desktop hosting, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox, Group Policy and domain join.

How activation works
- Download Windows from Microsoft (the Media Creation Tool or ISO) if you are installing fresh, or open Settings › System › Activation on an existing PC.
- Enter the product key from your delivery email. Windows verifies it with Microsoft’s activation servers.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if you want the digital licence linked to the account, which makes reactivation after a hardware change simpler.

Which Windows 11 edition should I buy?
Home for a home or gaming PC; Pro if you want BitLocker management, Remote Desktop access to the PC, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox or Group Policy. At AutoSoftKey both cost £29.95.
Why are Windows 11 keys so cheap here?
They are pre-owned perpetual licences transferred from previous holders under the exhaustion principle confirmed in UsedSoft v Oracle and ValueLicensing v Microsoft, sold without Microsoft’s retail margin. Each order comes with documentation.
Can I upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro with a key from here?
Yes. Enter the Windows 11 Pro key under Settings › System › Activation › Change product key; the edition switches in place.
Is Windows 10 still supported?
Standard support ended on 14 October 2025. Microsoft’s consumer Extended Security Updates programme provides security patches for enrolled Windows 10 22H2 PCs until 12 October 2027.
Does the licence work on a new build?
Yes. Install Windows from Microsoft’s media, enter the key when prompted or after set-up, and activate online.
Do I get a disc or USB?
No. Delivery is digital: the key and guidance are emailed, and the installation media is downloaded from Microsoft.
