Civil 3D: infrastructure design and documentation on the AutoCAD platform

Autodesk Civil 3D is the application UK highways, drainage, land development and rail teams use to turn survey data into designed, documented infrastructure. Because it is built on full AutoCAD, every drafting tool you already know is there; on top of it sit dynamic surfaces, alignments and profiles, corridor modelling, gravity and pressure pipe networks, grading and earthworks quantities that update as the design changes.

AutoSoftKey supplies Civil 3D as a 3-year licence for Windows. The UK & Ireland country kit (UKIE), which provides British drawing standards, DMRB-style styles and Sewers for Adoption content, is available from Autodesk for each release.

What Civil 3D is used for

  • Surveys and surfaces: import point clouds and survey data, build TIN surfaces, analyse slopes and contours.
  • Roads and rail: alignments, profiles, assemblies and corridors for highways, junctions and track.
  • Drainage and utilities: gravity and pressure pipe networks with catchment analysis and Storm and Sanitary Analysis tools.
  • Site and earthworks: feature-line grading, cut and fill volumes, mass haul diagrams.
  • Documentation: plan and profile sheets, sections, tables and labels driven by British styles from the UKIE country kit.

Who buys Civil 3D

Civil engineers, highway designers, drainage consultants, surveyors and contractors’ temporary-works teams. It is also the application named in most UK infrastructure BIM execution plans alongside Revit and Navisworks.

If your work also touches Revit models or Navisworks coordination, the AEC Collection bundles Civil 3D with those tools, InfraWorks and Vehicle Tracking.

Choosing your release year

Civil 3D is Windows-only. Pick the release year (2024–2027) that matches your project team: Civil 3D objects are not backwards compatible, so a 2027 drawing cannot be fully edited in 2026. If you are not bound to a project standard, the newest release your hardware supports is the right choice.

Compatibility and system requirements

Civil 3D 2026/2027 requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Autodesk recommends 32 GB of RAM for corridor-heavy projects (16 GB minimum), a fast multi-core processor and a DirectX 12 graphics card with 4 GB or more. Allow 20–30 GB of disk space including country kits.

An Autodesk account and internet connection are required for download and validation.

Always check the current release against Autodesk’s published system requirements before you order, because minimum specifications move with each release.

Delivery and activation

Orders are fulfilled digitally — there is nothing to post. Once payment is confirmed, your licence details and step-by-step setup instructions go to the email address you entered at checkout. Most orders are processed promptly after payment confirmation; a small number are held briefly for a routine manual check. If you need a hand with installation or activation, our support team replies by email during published support hours.
