AutoCAD Plant 3D: what the toolset adds to AutoCAD

The AutoCAD Plant 3D toolset is the process and piping design environment inside AutoCAD. You draw the P&ID with intelligent symbols, route 3D pipework against spec-driven catalogues, place equipment and steelwork, then generate piping isometrics, orthographic drawings and material reports from the model. UK water, chemical, food and energy contractors use it on brownfield and small-to-medium greenfield projects where a full plant design system would be overkill.

AutoSoftKey supplies the toolset as a 3-year licence for Windows.

How Autodesk supplies the toolsets. Autodesk includes its seven specialised toolsets with an eligible AutoCAD entitlement on Windows; each toolset is installed separately from the core application. This page is a dedicated workflow page so you can buy the entitlement that matches the work you do; it is not an additional seat on top of AutoCAD. Read our AutoCAD toolsets explained guide before choosing if you are unsure.

What AutoCAD Plant 3D is used for

  • P&ID: AutoCAD P&ID symbols with tagging, line lists and data validation against the 3D model.
  • 3D piping: spec-driven routing with ASME, DIN and BS-based catalogues and automatic fittings.
  • Equipment and structure: parametric vessels, pumps and steel from the Plant 3D library.
  • Isometrics and orthos: automatic piping isometrics and orthographic drawings with bills of materials.
  • Collaboration: project sharing through Autodesk Docs and Navisworks review.

Who buys AutoCAD Plant 3D

Piping designers, process engineers, EPC subcontractors and plant owners documenting existing facilities. Larger multi-discipline projects often add Navisworks Manage for review; civil work sits in Civil 3D.

Choosing your release year

AutoCAD Plant 3D is Windows-only. Select a release year from 2024 to 2027; the toolset must match the release of the core AutoCAD it runs with, so keep the two in step if you already have AutoCAD installed. Every option carries the 3-year licence term.

Compatibility and system requirements

AutoCAD Plant 3D 2026/2027 installs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 alongside AutoCAD of the same release. Autodesk recommends a multi-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12-capable graphics card with 4 GB or more and additional disk space for the toolset content libraries.

An Autodesk account and internet connection are required for download, installation and licence validation.

Always check the current release against Autodesk’s published system requirements before you order, because minimum specifications move with each release.
