AutoCAD Map 3D: what the toolset adds to AutoCAD

The AutoCAD Map 3D toolset brings GIS into AutoCAD. It reads and writes shapefiles, GeoJSON, OS MasterMap and web map services, reprojects between British National Grid and other coordinate systems, and stores attributes against drawing objects so utilities, councils and surveyors can manage assets in the same environment they draft in.

AutoSoftKey supplies the toolset as a 3-year licence for Windows. If you also need alignments, corridors or pipe networks, Civil 3D includes the Map 3D functionality.

How Autodesk supplies the toolsets. Autodesk includes its seven specialised toolsets with an eligible AutoCAD entitlement on Windows; each toolset is installed separately from the core application. Who buys AutoCAD Map 3D

Utilities, local authorities, land surveyors, estate managers and environmental consultants who need drawings tied to real-world coordinates and attribute data. Civil designers usually take Civil 3D instead, because it includes Map 3D.

Choosing your release year

AutoCAD Map 3D is Windows-only. Select a release year from 2024 to 2027; the toolset must match the release of the core AutoCAD it runs with, so keep the two in step if you already have AutoCAD installed. Every option carries the 3-year licence term.

Compatibility and system requirements

AutoCAD Map 3D 2026/2027 installs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 alongside AutoCAD of the same release. Autodesk recommends a multi-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12-capable graphics card with 4 GB or more and additional disk space for the toolset content libraries.

An Autodesk account and internet connection are required for download, installation and licence validation.
