AutoCAD Electrical: what the toolset adds to AutoCAD

The AutoCAD Electrical toolset is built for electrical control design: schematics, panel layouts and wiring diagrams that stay consistent because wire numbers, component tags and cross-references are managed by the software rather than typed by hand. UK panel builders and machine designers use it for IEC 60617-style schematics, PLC I/O drawings and the reports that go to the workshop.

AutoSoftKey supplies the toolset as a 3-year licence for Windows — a practical option for a controls engineer or a small panel shop that needs one or two seats without an annual renewal.

How Autodesk supplies the toolsets. Autodesk includes its seven specialised toolsets with an eligible AutoCAD entitlement on Windows; each toolset is installed separately from the core application. This page is a dedicated workflow page so you can buy the entitlement that matches the work you do; it is not an additional seat on top of AutoCAD. Read our AutoCAD toolsets explained guide before choosing if you are unsure.

What AutoCAD Electrical is used for

  • Schematic design: ladder and point-to-point diagrams with automatic wire numbering and component tagging.
  • Symbol libraries: IEC, JIC, IEEE and other standards, plus manufacturer catalogue data for parts.
  • Panel layouts: generate panel drawings from the schematic, with terminal strips and DIN rail layouts.
  • PLC I/O: spreadsheet-driven PLC drawings and automatic I/O address updates.
  • Reports: bills of materials, wire lists, from/to lists and terminal plans for manufacture.

Who buys AutoCAD Electrical

Control-panel builders, machine and automation designers, building-services electrical engineers and maintenance teams documenting existing plant. If you work on the mechanical side of the same machines, AutoCAD Mechanical is the companion toolset; for 3D mechanical design see Inventor.

Choosing your release year

AutoCAD Electrical is Windows-only. Select a release year from 2024 to 2027; the toolset must match the release of the core AutoCAD it runs with, so keep the two in step if you already have AutoCAD installed. Every option carries the 3-year licence term.

Compatibility and system requirements

AutoCAD Electrical 2026/2027 installs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 alongside AutoCAD of the same release. Autodesk recommends a multi-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12-capable graphics card with 4 GB or more and additional disk space for the toolset content libraries.

An Autodesk account and internet connection are required for download, installation and licence validation.

Always check the current release against Autodesk’s published system requirements before you order, because minimum specifications move with each release.

Orders are fulfilled digitally — there is nothing to post. Once payment is confirmed, your licence details and step-by-step setup instructions go to the email address you entered at checkout.
