Office on a Mac without a subscription

Home & Business is the edition of Office 2021 for Mac that includes Outlook. Word, Excel and PowerPoint cover documents, spreadsheets and presentations; Outlook handles email, calendar and contacts; OneNote keeps notes in sync. You buy it once and it stays installed — there is no monthly renewal and no cloud subscription attached.

The trade-off deserves a moment’s thought. A one-off purchase is a fixed version: feature updates stop where they are, and none of the cloud storage or online services of a Microsoft 365 subscription are included. For a Mac used mainly to produce documents and manage email, that is usually exactly what people want. Microsoft supports Office 2021 for Mac on the three most recent macOS releases at the time of installation, with 4 GB of RAM and 10 GB of disk space. A Mac left on an older macOS may not be able to install it, so check the version first. A Microsoft account and internet access are needed for activation. Microsoft’s support for the Office 2021 family runs until 13 October 2026; after that date the applications keep working but stop receiving security updates.
